Live performance by TaikaBox and Jussi Alaraasakka brings the human body into dialogue with Taiwanese kinetic art
The closing day of INTER-FACE:ing LuxuryLogico at AaltoSiilo brought Taiwanese kinetic art and Finnish live performance together in a cross-disciplinary encounter attended by Mayor of Oulu Ari Alatossava.
Titled INTER-FACE:ing = LuxuryLogico × TaikaBox + Jussi Alaraasakka, the finissage featured Oulu-based dance and technology organisation TaikaBox and sound artist Jussi Alaraasakka, who presented a live performance responding to the kinetic installations of Taiwanese artist collective LuxuryLogico.
Through movement, sound and live interaction, the performance introduced the human body into dialogue with the mechanical movements of the artworks. The encounter extended the exhibition beyond the installations themselves, exploring how human movement and technological systems might respond to one another.
During the closing event, Mayor Alatossava reflected on the diversity of cultural experiences presented during Oulu’s European Capital of Culture year. He described the exhibition and performance as another memorable experience bringing different artistic elements together.
His remarks also touched on the crossing of boundaries that may otherwise go unnoticed, echoing the spirit of the collaboration between Taiwanese artists and Oulu-based performers.
The event brought together two distinct artistic approaches: LuxuryLogico’s exploration of kinetic systems, light and technology, and TaikaBox’s work at the intersection of dance, movement and digital media. With Alaraasakka’s sound performance, the closing event transformed the exhibition space into a setting for an encounter between bodies, machines and sound.
Curated by Shuchen Wang, INTER-FACE:ing LuxuryLogico presented six kinetic, light-based and immersive works in the post-industrial architecture of AaltoSiilo, a former industrial silo designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto.
Presented as part of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme, the exhibition ran from 15 to 25 October. Its closing performance highlighted the possibilities of international artistic exchange rooted in local collaboration.
