The whole Northern Finland celebrates the European Capital of Culture year in 2026. In addition to Oulu, 39 municipalities are working together for cultural climate change.
The Oulu2026 region will take the global stage in an unprecedented way as Finnish and international actors create something new in cities, rural areas, and nature. This journey spans several years, culminating in 2026 and continuing to evolve beyond.

Far away from everything, on the periphery of Europe, we face an uncompromising nature, enormous distances, wild vastness, excessive light, and excessive darkness. In 2026, all of Europe will be inspired by this hinterland as Oulu is named European Capital of Culture.
We have invited the entire Oulu2026 region to contribute to an experience where local people and organizations, along with domestic and international visitors, can be part of something greater. Together we are making our region of great contrasts the most amazing window to European culture in 2026.
