Oulu2026 is opening its first call for volunteers in February. Applications will be open from 3–28 February, and anyone over the age of 15 who wants to be part of the European Capital of Culture year is welcome to join. Volunteering offers a unique opportunity to get involved in this once-in-a-lifetime cultural celebration.

Oulu2026 volunteers will take on a variety of roles in cultural events throughout 2026. Opportunities include ticket sales, event organisation, communications and marketing, and customer service. Volunteers can participate in a single event or be involved throughout the entire year. Tasks will be assigned based on skills and interests, and volunteers can choose their level of commitment according to their availability. Oulu2026 provides comprehensive training, necessary equipment, insurance, and a safe working environment.
To sign up, fill out the registration form on the Oulu2026 website. After registration, applicants attend an introduction session, and they will be interviewed. The first training sessions will take place in March. It is also possible to join as a volunteer later in 2025.
“Volunteers are the face of our programme and play a key role in making the Capital of Culture year a reality. Each volunteer brings their own skills and energy, and together we will create an unforgettable 2026,” says Anette Eksymä, Volunteer Coordinator.
