OMVF and Elektorni bring Finnish audiovisual culture to Berlin hot spots!

The Oulu Music Video Festival’s European Music Video Competition (filmfreeway.com/OMVF) is open for submissions until June 8, and to celebrate the launch of its first-ever European competition series, OMVF is heading to Berlin to present festival programming at some of the city’s top venues. The celebrations continue with an afterparty hosted by the Oulu-based record label and club collective Elektorni at OHM, one of Berlin’s central techno clubs.
The evening begins at the Babylon movie theatre with a special screening curated by OMVF Artistic Director Juhani Oivo, featuring a selection of rare Finnish music videos from 1994–2025 alongside the cult documentary Sähkö (1995). After the screenings, the program continues at OHM with an Elektorni club night, where the musical selection moves from experimental electronic music to dancefloor-oriented club sounds.
The Babylon program opens with Rare Finnish Music Videos 1994–2025, a screening that dives into the alternative history of Finnish music videos. The focus is on electronic music videos, but the selection also includes tango, dub and early hip hop interpreted by visionary directors. Most of these videos cannot be found on YouTube, making this a rare opportunity to experience them on the big screen.
The evening’s second screening is Sähkö (1995), a documentary directed by Jimi Tenor that captures the activities of the legendary Finnish record label Sähkö Recordings in the mid-1990s. The film includes rare footage of artists such as Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väisänen, Tommi Grönlund and Mono Junk engaged in music production, live performance, DIY instrument building and vinyl pressing. The screening is followed by a Q&A session with Ilpo Väisänen.
The Elektorni club night at OHM features performances by Oulu-based artists Illyana and Juhani Oivo, Finnish artists Ilpo Väisänen and Mesak, Swedish artist Rolando Simmons, and Danish artists Picture + Mandee. Visuals for the night are provided by Oulu-based visual artist VJ Tenetz (Random Doctors).
OMVF’s European Music Video Competition is part of the official program of Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture, while Elektorni is celebrating its 15th anniversary year, culminating in a special anniversary event at Tähtitornin kahvila in Oulu on July 10 as part of the Oulu2026 program.
The events are made possible with support from the Finnish Institute in Germany and Visit Finland.
