Opened at the beginning of June on the summit of Iso-Syöte, the exhibition has attracted visitors to experience art surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Syöte National Park.

The Glimpses of North (Välähdyksiä) is a group exhibition featuring seven artists based in the Syöte area. The exhibition brings art out of the traditional gallery setting and into the heart of the fell landscape. The works by Katariina Kuukasjärvi, Sinikka Tasala, Arja Äikäs, Teija Soini, Tiina Törmänen, Sami Säily and Marjo Koskenkorva explore northern nature, people, life and traditions.

Art where the inspiration was born

The Glimpses of North (Välähdyksiä) was created with the idea of bringing the art of the Syöte region into the very environment that has inspired the artists. The works are displayed along a trail a few hundred metres long on the summit of Iso-Syöte, where the art and the surrounding landscape become part of the same experience.

The exhibition invites visitors to slow down, look around and experience art in a unique setting. Alongside the artworks, visitors can enjoy the fell landscapes of Syöte National Park – while each season brings its own character to the exhibition.

The Glimpses of North (Välähdyksiä) is part of the Oulu2026 – European Capital of Culture 2026 programme. It also demonstrates how culture can reach beyond the city and its immediate surroundings, finding new audiences and new settings.

There is still time to experience the exhibition

If you have not yet experienced The Glimpses of North (Välähdyksiä), there is still plenty of time to visit. The exhibition is open until 18 October 2026, and admission is free. The exhibition can be reached on foot or by bike, while the Iso-Syöte Express chairlift offers an easy way to reach the summit.

The autumn colours will give the exhibition yet another unique setting. Welcome to experience The Glimpses of North (Välähdyksiä) – art in the heart of Syöte’s fell landscape.
