Nakazato’s visit includes a screening of the documentary film DUST TO DUST and a guided tour of the GLACIER exhibition led by the designer himself.
Japanese haute couture designer and photographer Yuima Nakazato visits Oulu Art Museum on 16 September. As part of his visit, the museum will screen DUST TO DUST, a documentary directed by Kosai Sekine. Following the screening, Nakazato will lead visitors on a tour of his GLACIER exhibition, during which visitors will also have the opportunity to ask him questions about his work and creative process.
DUST TO DUST explores the environmental impact of fashion
Kosai Sekine’s documentary DUST TO DUST follows Yuima Nakazato’s journey from landfills in Kenya to Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Nakazato travels to Kenya to gain a deeper understanding of the environmental impact of the fashion industry and to explore more sustainable ways of designing and producing clothing.
The film will be screened in the Satula space on 16 September from 3.30 to 5 pm.
The documentary highlights the environmental and ethical challenges facing the fashion industry, as well as Nakazato’s distinctive approach to combining artistic expression, craftsmanship and sustainable innovation. In his work, creativity and care for the environment are not separate concerns but starting points for creating new kinds of fashion. The film is subtitled in English.
The exhibition tour introduces three collections
After the movie Yuima Nakazato will lead a guided tour of the GLACIER exhibition from 5 to 5.30 pm. During the tour, visitors will explore the works on display and learn about Nakazato’s creative process directly from the designer himself.
The exhibition features three collections that explore the relationship between people, clothing and nature in the context of today’s global challenges. One of the collections draws inspiration from the landscapes of northern Finland. The guided tour will be held in English.
The events are included in the museum admission fee.
