The Takaranta Art Trail opens on April 29 in Raahe! This seaside route combines nature and art, inviting visitors to experience biodegradable artworks and enjoy the outdoors in Pitkäkari.

The Takaranta Art Trail, created by Raahe-opisto, is part of the official programme of Oulu2026, the European Capital of Culture year. This unique route brings together nature and art, featuring biodegradable works made from natural materials. As you explore the trail, you can follow the life cycle of the artworks while enjoying the outdoors.
Located between Pitkäkari School and the sea, the approximately 1.8 km trail already features art tents created by children and young people, installed in summer 2025. Over the past year, new works have been created in courses and public events. These include delicate himmeli ornaments made from beach grass and playful spinning pieces crafted from natural fibres and wood – all becoming part of the evolving trail.
The opening event will be held during the May Day week on Wednesday, April 29 at 5 PM at Pitkäkari School (Rantakatu 5 D). This open and interactive event offers something for everyone: hands-on workshops where visitors can sculpt forest spirits from clay under the guidance of the institute’s teachers. The creations will be placed along the trail. Juice and sweets will be served in celebration of Raahe-opisto’s 80th anniversary, and staff will be present to chat about courses, camps, and ideas.
The Takaranta Art Trail is designed to live and grow over the years, with new artworks continuously created as part of the institute’s activities.
