During Pride week 29.7-.4.8., lots of wonderful events take place in Oulu, and we are also involved in a few things! You can prepare for the Pride Parade on Thursday 1st of August at the comics & placard workshop.
Comics & Placard Workshop
Thursday 1st of August, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Oulu2026 Showroom, Torikatu 18 at street level
14-18: Come and paint a placard for Saturday’s Pride parade! Feel free to come and chat with us about the upcoming European Capital of Culture year as well. People from the Equal Oulu2026 -project are present.
15–16.30: Make your own kind of comic with Emilia Laatikainen. This is a non-stop workshop, so feel free to join us briefly or stay for the whole session. You can try and explore making comics by drawing or by painting your own comic-style placard for the parade, for example.
Emilia Laatikainen (they/them) is a comics artist and a teacher of visual arts from Oulu. Their comic book ‘Ei ois susta uskonut’ (Suuri Kurpitsa, 2023) won the Sarjakuva-Finlandia (Comics-Finlandia) prize in 2024.
We provide materials for making of the comics and placards, but feel free to bring your own supplies as the amount of materials is limited. The workshop is free of charge, accessible and open for all.
Oulu Pride Parade & Park Festival
Pride Parade on 3rd of August from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Park Festival from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Oulu2026 participates in the parade as our own block and everyone is welcome to join us and march under the Oulu2026 banner! The Parade gathers in Kuusisaari from 12 p.m. onwards and returns to the same spot for the Park Festival at 2 p.m. You will also find us at the Park Festival – come chat with us at our tent and get our very own Oulu2026 temporary tattoo in rainbow colours.
