The Japanese Tokorozawa Fény Children’s Choir visited Oulu at the beginning of May. The choir consists of 42 young singers aged between 10 and 17. During the week, the choir performed in several concerts, including a Mother’s Day concert at Karjasilta Church, as well as performances at the Hiirosen Service Centre and Medipolis. The choir also participated in the Rohkeasti reunalla stadium concert together with Oulu’s 3rd–9th grade music classes and the Madetoja Upper Secondary School of Music.

The girls’ choir of Madetoja Upper Secondary School of Music and choir conductor Elina Kärki welcomed the Japanese choir to Oulu and arranged homestay accommodation for the visiting children.
“The Japanese children’s choir had also practised songs in Finnish. The visit was extremely successful, and the farewell was emotional,” summarizes Community Manager Heli Metsäpelto.

The visit of the Tokorozawa Fény Children’s Choir is part of the cooperation between the Oulu Cultural Foundation and EU Japan Fest. EU Japan Fest supports collaboration between Japanese artists and European Capitals of Culture. The Tokorozawa Fény Children’s Choir is conducted by Sachiko Mager.
