In 2021 during the pandemic, Experience the City, Experience Art was a two-kilometre-long window art exhibition in Oulu city centre. In September 2026, an updated version of the exhibition will be presented to people living and visiting Oulu.
The exhibition brings art to people through the shop windows of businesses in Oulu city centre, encouraging local residents to explore their own surroundings through art, walking the streets of the city centre and looking into the windows. And why not take the opportunity to discover what the local businesses have to offer, too?
Experience the City, Experience Art 2026 window exhibition can be enjoyed in the windows of Wine Bar Vox, Optihouse Sipola, Rotuaarin Apteekki, Optiholmi, Finlayson, Konditoria-kahvila Sofia, Fulari, Muoti Privaatti, Ravintola Puistola, Salon Virho, Avidly ja Hallituskatu 29 näyteikkunoissa. Experience the City, Experience Art 2026 artists are Hanna Holopainen, Henri, Leena Kangas, Lotta Nevanperä, Pirjo Nykänen, Taru-Carita Pullinen, Riikka Soininen, Markus Still, Raimo Törhönen, Veikko Törmänen and Tiitu Veijola. There is also a performance by Sirpa Heikkinen and community art by Turunlahden sanaversomo.
The exhibition is organised by Working Group Manninen & Pihlajaniemi in collaboration with Oulun Liikekeskus and CreArt Oulu. Experience the City, Experience Art 2026 is part of Galleria MABD’s Oulu2026 Galleria International project. One of the key elements of the project is to bring art to people. CreArt is an EU-funded cultural network for medium-sized cities, of which Oulu is a member.
