Northern cultures and the voices of a new generation come together at the Oulu2026 Club at Tarkastamo on 9 October. The club features Emil Kárlsen, one of the most exciting names in contemporary Sámi music, also known for his role in the Ovllá opera, and DJ Hulluella, who brings planetary bass music to the decks.
Sámi artist, musician and actor Emil Kárlsen (SÁ/NO) has emerged as one of the North’s most exciting contemporary cultural figures by combining yoik, electronic soundscapes and powerful storytelling in his music. Originally from Storfjord, Kárlsen builds a bridge between tradition and the present in his work, creating powerful experiences of culture, identity and life in the North.
Having just released his new album Nannámii, Kárlsen is known for his striking and intense live performances, in which northern languages, stories and landscapes come to life through music. Alongside his music career, he has also worked as an actor, including at the Sámi National Theatre Beaivváš and in the Disney+ series Karhun keitto. In Oulu, he also appeared in the lead role of the Ovllá opera, one of the key works of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme.
The evening’s second performer is DJ Hulluella, a force of nature from the North. The Rovaniemi-based DJ, artist and producer is known for her radiantly energetic sets. Hulluella’s eclectic and distinctive selection pays tribute to music from across the planet, seamlessly blending percussive bass music with UK garage, breaks, techno and hardgroove in her signature mixed-bag style.
Hulluella has taken over dance floors at clubs and festivals in Finland and internationally, including Kivipaino, Provinssi, Frozen People Festival, Norway’s Riddu Riđđu and Tromsø Arctic Pride parties, as well as the legendary Planet Wax in London. Hulluella is also one of the founding members of Rovaniemi’s Sula Kollektiivi, alongside Yajuka and Hellahighheat.
