Oulu at Movies – Urban Film Festival with Rural Twist
Oulu at Movies Festival presents movies about the city for both new and longtime Oulu residents. The festival brings films from theaters into urban spaces – the market square, park, shopping center, drive-in screenings.
Oulu at Movies Festival presents a selection of films connected to Oulu, shown at their original locations. For example, Mikko Niskanen’s The Boys (Pojat) will be screened as an open-air event in the heart of Raksila, using an authentic film projector. Other venues include locations such as the marketplace and the university’s large lecture hall. Naturally, the festival’s road movie will be shown as a drive-in screening. The festival will also extend to Hailuoto and Liminka, presenting films rooted in the local contexts.
Our impact to Culture-
climate change
Oulu at Movies Festival builds a shared sense of Oulu by inviting new and old residents to explore the city’s stories through film. By presenting films in their authentic locations, the festival connects movies and places to the region’s collective memory, especially for younger generations and newcomers. This fosters a sense of belonging and inclusion while creating a shared, communal audiovisual experience that brings Oulu and its stories to life.
