Minä Olen Kaupunki
Minä Olen Kaupunki is a series of digital and analogue collages which examines the symbiotic relationship between a city and its inhabitants. Place and memory and the different perceptions of the same physical reality are its core questions.
Through in-depth interviews with people living in Oulu the artists deal with memories, fears and hopes that are connected to certain places. What did Oulu look like in the memories of its oldest inhabitant? What does it look like from the perspective of a young adult in the 2020’s? The stories are the driving force for the visual expression, as the artists make collages out of portraits, landscapes, details and still-lives. In addition to photographs, the collages combine drawing, painting, text and other materials. Minä Olen Kaupunki is an exhibition where traditional analogue collages meet 3D-printed objects and other artwork created with different techniques.
Our impact to Culture-
climate change
A person is a part of their city and the city is a part of them, and both are more than the sum of their parts. Minä Olen Kaupunki gives new perspectives into Oulu and what it means to be from Oulu. It makes one consider the impact of place in one’s own experiences, memories and identity. The city we share shapes us in its way much like we shape it. We can see ourselves in the stories of others and recognize the part we play in this dialogue.
