Art not tar! Regional performing arts as part of ecological reconstruction
In the past tar was an important raw material a source of wealth and livelihood. In the time of the eco-crisis, we no longer tar our boats to stay afloat. Performing art can act as a builder of change and new meanings.
Art not tar! Bring together performing art students and professionals to learn and share about ecological reconstruction in a course at Kajaani and the Mustarinda house. What is it to live and work as an artist here, on the edge of Europe in 2026? As part of the project, there will also be a theatre performance Tervan tie(Tar road) produced by Kajaani City Regional Theatre. This roadtrip play not only deals with the historic tar route, but also runs along it from Kuhmo all the way to Oulu. Tervan tie looks with compassion to people working hard for future generations – both the tar makers of the past and the environmental activists of today.
Our impact to Culture-
climate change
Climate change and the ecological crisis challenge completely the structures of our lifestyle and society. Culture Climate Change therefore includes allso a new kind of citizenship. Tervan tie (Tar road) performance reflects, in addition to the temporal and geographical trave, allso the journey from spectator to someone who executes actions.
If the ecological transition is implemented fair and communal, we can found, besides renunciation, a lot of joy and new forms of good life and togetherness. Our regional performing art is working towards this change.
