Ärjä Art Festival
Ecological themes and performing arts on Ärjä Island in Lake Oulujärvi.
At the Ärjä Art Festival, art ranging from theater to music and contemporary art is showcased. Festival attendees also had the opportunity to participate in caring for Ärjä Island.
The Ärjä Art Festival is a camping and waste-free contemporary art event, organized according to the conditions of the Ärjä Island nature reserve and held entirely outdoors. At the heart of the festival lies the future of the planet. The art and the festival’s practices intertwine around ecological themes. The event’s goal is to discover fresh, communal ways to address the changes that challenge our planet.
The Ärjä Art Festival is held every other year on Ärjä Island in Lake Oulujärvi.
Our impact to Culture-
climate change
The Ärjä Art Festival is a proposal for a new kind of festival and an experiment in what the combination of nature and art can be in the future. The festival’s centerpiece is the unique Ärjä island with its stunning natural stages.
With its ecological approach, the Ärjä Art Festival is a proposal for a different kind of festival—one that is centered around camping and self-sufficiency, leaving no ecological disaster in its wake or aiming for maximalist consumption goals.
Festival-goers also take part in improving the condition of the island.
