Ancient Survival Skills
Kierikki is participating in the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture year with the Ancient Survival Skills project. Ancient survival skills, our natural connections and sense of community link ancient people to modern people of today.
At Kierikki, modern people return to their prehistoric roots and learn to both discover ancient survival skills within themselves, and to see the strong bond between nature and themselves. The community and spiritual culture of the Stone Age laid the foundations for hundreds of generations.
Ancient survival skills invite everyone to come together and build the future by drawing from the wisdom of the past.

At Kierikki, modern people can experience the past physically and spiritually.
The Stone Age burial complex, to be implemented in 2026, offers participants a unique journey into ancient rituals, highlighting beliefs, stories, and the cycle of nature. In late summer, the Ancient Market will expand into an experiential multi-day event where the past and the present intertwine. All of Kierikki’s programme content for 2025 and 2026 is part of the official program of Oulu’s Capital of Culture year.
