Commercial Use Requires an Agreement

The Oulu2026 trademark is a registered trademark, and its commercial use must always be contracted with the Oulu Cultural Foundation. If the entity is already part of the official cultural program, no application is needed.

  • The company has the opportunity to create one Oulu2026-branded product/product set or service.
  • The commercial use rights of the trademark are granted until the end of 2026.
  • No additional fees are charged for commercial use beyond the one-time license fee.
  • Commercial use of the trademark without a usage rights agreement is prohibited.
  • Usage rights are generally not granted for products produced outside the EU.
  • Usage rights cannot be transferred to a third party.

Applying for Commercial Use Rights

Fill out the application form for the commercial use of the trademark. The form requests a description of the utilization plan for the trademark and the company’s responsibility plan.

The average processing time for the application is about 4 working days. After processing the application, we prepare the usage rights agreement and invite the contact person to sign it. At the same time, we invoice the one-time license fee.

License Fee

  • Micro-enterprises (less than 10 employees or up to 2 million EUR turnover) and associations and organizations: €260 + VAT
  • SMEs (less than 250 employees or less than 50 million EUR turnover): €1,900 + VAT

Non-Commercial Use of the Oulu2026 Logo

Utilizing the logo is permitted for non-commercial use by all residents and entities in the area. Let’s celebrate and highlight the cultural capital year, creating a phenomenon together!

Companies can also utilize the Oulu2026 logo in non-commercial contexts. A company can feature Oulu2026 in corporate events, on websites, social media, or in their premises.

The logo must not be presented as an integral part of a product or service, e.g., visually on packaging or product descriptions, without an agreement for commercial use.

Can our company manufacture and sell our own Oulu2026 products? How do I obtain the rights for commercial use of the trademark?

If a company wants to sell Oulu2026-branded products or services, an agreement must be made with the Oulu Cultural Foundation regarding the use of the trademark. The usage rights are applied for using a form that describes the utilization plan for the trademark.

After the application is approved, the usage rights of the trademark are confirmed by a separate agreement signed by representatives of the Oulu Cultural Foundation and the applicant company.

The applicant is charged a license fee for the use of the trademark based on the size of the company. The license fee is a one-time payment.

How much does the commercial use rights of the Oulu2026 trademark cost?

A one-time license fee is paid for the commercial use of the trademark, the amount of which is determined by the size of the applicant company.

The license fee is already included in the Oulu2026 Business Club membership fee.

Commercial use rights of the trademark without Business Club membership:

  • Less than 10 employees or up to 2 million EUR turnover: €260 + VAT
  • Less than 250 employees or less than 50 million EUR turnover: €1,900 + VAT
  • Associations (clubs, organizations, associations, etc.) are charged €260 + VAT

How much royalties do I have to pay for selling Oulu2026 products?

The Oulu Cultural Foundation does not charge royalties or other sales-based fees. A one-time license fee is paid for the commercial use of the trademark.

What criteria are used to grant commercial use rights for the Oulu2026 trademark?

The Oulu Cultural Foundation evaluates applications on a case-by-case basis. Priority is given to products and services from small operators in the Oulu2026 area. Exclusive rights to use the Oulu2026 trademark are not granted.

Commercial use rights of the trademark can be granted to a product or service that meets the following criteria:

  • The product is primarily manufactured in the Oulu2026 area.
  • The product/service is produced ethically and in accordance with Oulu2026 values.
  • Sustainability and responsibility aspects are considered in production, sales, and distribution.
  • The right to make changes is reserved.

How do I obtain exclusive rights to use the Oulu2026 trademark?

The Oulu Cultural Foundation does not grant exclusive rights to use the Oulu2026 trademark.
