For one weekend only, 11–13 September, TEK.village transforms Teknologiakylä into a free, family-friendly open-air gallery, with contemporary art, creative activities, guided walks and a special opening celebration on Friday.
TEK.village is a free, family-friendly public art project and part of the official Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme. For three days only, artworks, performances and participatory activities will appear along Elektroniikkatie, between numbers 2B and 14, bringing art into the streets, courtyards and spaces between buildings.
Visitors can explore the exhibition at their own pace, with maps and guides available. Works on view throughout the weekend include Alena Tereshko’s Hand Raised Worm, Luumu Tursas’ Splinter, SMASH, Shatter, Scatter, Shima Salehi’s Invisible Weight & Entangled, Katja Juhola’s Sanctuary of the Technology Village, and We Are All Connected — a collection of six works by Serbian students from the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad.
Something to discover for everyone
TEK.village is designed to be explored rather than simply viewed. Families and visitors of all ages can take part in free activities throughout the weekend.
On Saturday 12 September from 14:00 to 17:00, textile artist Rūta Simutytė leads Nature’s Imprints: Botanical Frottage and Community Activation. In this free drop-in workshop, participants can use local Oulu flora — such as leaves, flowers, pine needles and bark — to create prints on old clothing or contribute to a collective textile artwork. Visitors are welcome to bring an unneeded piece of clothing with them.
Katja Juhola’s Sanctuary of the Technology Village runs throughout the weekend, inviting visitors to contribute to a growing community artwork. Participants can add a wish for another person, an animal or nature to the project’s Tree of Wishes, or create new patterns from leaves, twigs and stones as part of the Living Mandala. The artwork can be joined on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at scheduled times.
On Sunday 13 September at 14:00, Ghanaian-Finnish artist Julian Owusu leads Walking with HI (Human Imagination) Glasses, an interactive art walk combining spoken word, movement and imagination. The walk explores how technology shapes the way we see the world and invites participants to imagine alternative futures.
Later on Sunday at 16:00, visitors can join a guided walk through We Are All Connected, exploring six works by Serbian students. The works include interactive installations, sculpture, sound, digital experiences and hidden games, examining the connections between people, technology and the natural world.
A special start to the weekend
The weekend begins with a special opening celebration on Friday 11 September from 16:00 to 21:00. The programme includes an introduction to the exhibition, participation in Juhola’s community artwork and hourly listening sessions for Radoš Manigoda’s Anthem of the dystopian community.
From 18:00 to 21:00, local DJs Liian and Iliyana & Elith will perform live sets accompanied by an immersive installation backdrop. The DJ sets are a one-off part of the Friday opening celebration; the exhibition and weekend activities continue on Saturday and Sunday.

Three days, one temporary village
TEK.village is a one-off experience, taking place only from 11–13 September. The project explores connections between people, technology, ecology and place, inviting visitors to see Teknologiakylä not only as a centre for technology and business, but also as a place for creativity, encounters and community.
Whether you visit with the family, join a workshop, follow a guided walk or simply wander between the artworks, there is no single way to experience TEK.village.

The main languages are English and Finnish, and guides and volunteers will be available during exhibition hours.
The exhibition includes sound, digital media, lighting and audiovisual works. Some works include flashing or changing lights, amplified sounds or repetitive sounds. The main roads and paths are generally flat and accessible, although individual artworks may be located on grass, between buildings or in courtyards. Seating and resting opportunities are limited, and there are no public toilets at the exhibition site.
Public transport and visitor parking are available nearby. The nearest bus stops include Keulapuisto E and P, Linnanmaan ramppi E, and Elektroniikkatie 4P and 3E.
