The international hit concept 100% City, being implemented in Finland for the very first time, will premiere on August 14 at the Oulu Theatre. You can get to know the selected Oulu residents right away on Oulu Theatre’s social media channels.

The entire cast for the unique documentary theatre piece 100% Oulu has now been assembled. The one hundred chosen Oulu residents represent the city’s entire demographic structure as comprehensively as possible. The stage will showcase the city in miniature: featuring people from different age groups, residential areas, and backgrounds, ranging from babies to grandfathers. You can get a sneak peek at the newly selected performers, as these Oulu residents are already being introduced on Oulu Theatre’s social media channels.
100% City is a world-renowned concept by the prestigious German theatre group Rimini Protokoll, and representatives from the group will arrive to direct the piece at the Oulu Theatre. The first performance took place in Berlin in 2008, and since then, custom versions have been produced in over 30 metropolises and cities around the world. The currently ongoing 100% Oulu is the historical first implementation of the concept in Finland.
One hundred volunteer performers will create constantly rearranging group portraits on a large, ever-changing stage. These Oulu residents and their opinions will be examined through various filters, ranging from age and political orientation to their favorite pub or sandwich preference. Little by little, a sea of different voices will build up on the stage, making the opinions and reality of the citizens concretely heard on the Oulu Theatre’s main stage.
The Team Behind 100 % Oulu: An Award-Winning and Experimental Contemporary Theatre Group
Rimini Protokoll is a contemporary theatre group founded in 2000 by Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi, and Daniel Wetzel. Through their works, they develop new, theatrical perspectives on reality. The group is characterized by turning social structures into theatrical forms, operating participatively as part of the respective community, and using technology playfully.
In addition to the 100% City concept, the group is known for works such as World Climate Conference, which dealt with diplomatic drama; the immersive piece Situation Rooms, which followed the stories of people who have come into contact with weapons; and the sound art piece Utopolis, which was built into urban spaces. Rimini Protokoll has received numerous international accolades for their work, including the Silver Lion at the Venice Theatre Biennale and Germany’s most important theatre award, the Faust Prize.
Oulu is the European Capital of Culture in 2026, and 100% Oulu is part of the Oulu2026 cultural program and cultural climate change.
