Oulu is the European Capital of Culture in 2026. To celebrate the anniversary year, the fifth artwork in the Oulu2026 mural series will be created in the city centre, and a suitable location is now being sought.

The mural will be placed on a building whose façade is suitable for a large-scale artwork. The artist for the piece will be selected through an ongoing portfolio call, and the artwork is planned to be completed in June 2026.
Suggestions can be submitted by all residents, as well as housing companies, property owners and building owners in the Oulu city centre area who wish to bring art visibly into the urban environment and into the programme of the Capital of Culture year. Once completed, the artwork will become part of the Oulu Museum of Art’s public art collection.
In selecting the location, attention will be paid to the façade’s visibility in the urban landscape, as well as its condition and technical suitability.
Residents can propose potential locations within Oulu’s city centre from 25 November to 31 December 2025 at www.upeart.com/oulu2026/.
The selected location will be announced in early 2026.
Art for Everyone
The Oulu2026 murals completed between 2022 and 2025 have already enlivened several residential areas in Oulu, including Rajakylä, Tuira, Myllyoja and Toppila. The artworks have received highly positive feedback from residents, and many have become recognisable landmarks in their neighbourhoods.
During the Capital of Culture year, all Oulu2026 murals will be featured in various city events and community programmes.
