Equitable Inclusion Through Volunteering

About the project

Oulu and its 39 partner municipalities hold the title of European Capital of Culture for the year 2026. This designation offers equal opportunities for participation, of which volunteering is one key method.

The “Equitable Inclusion Through Volunteering” project operates throughout the broad Oulu2026 region, crossing provincial borders and focusing on Oulu and Kajaani, although participants from all across the region are welcome. Project time 1.4.2025 – 28.2.2027

Objectives

1. Planning and implementing equal opportunities of volunteering as a part of European Capital of Culture for the year 2026.

2. Reaching out the immigrants and promoting their inclusion and attachment to society through interaction and volunteering.

3. Strengthening the competences of the immigrants related to different areas of volunteering, but also working life skills and active citizenship

4. Developing a volunteering model to enable immigrants to engage more fully with volunteer activities in both non-profit and public sectors.

As a result of the project, the region will develop a diverse and inspiring volunteering model that actively engages immigrants as participants. Organizations offering volunteer opportunities will identify specific roles where volunteers can contribute. The project will also enhance collaboration among partner organizations and those providing volunteer opportunities, making volunteering more accessible to all residents.

Target groups

The project’s target groups include immigrants and communities either planning or implementing volunteer activities.

The Budget 685 454 €, of which 548 360 € supported by EU. European Social Fund Plus, The Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021–2027. EU Structural Funds, Priority, Competent and inclusive Finland that provides work, Specific objective: Equitable inclusion.
