The Pole Dancing for everybody in June brings together people of all ages and sizes who are interested in pole dancing. At the heart of the event is an important message: pole dancing belongs to every body!

Pole Dance Breaks Boundaries
For many, pole dance still brings to mind nightclubs and performance stages, even though the discipline has long been part of the fitness and sports culture. It is a form of movement that develops body control, strength, flexibility, and creativity, practiced both recreationally and competitively around the world.
“We need to question why a certain form of exercise would be reserved for only a specific group of people,” says event organizer and pole dance instructor Saija Pelkonen. “Pole dance has long carried certain stereotypes that don’t reflect reality. We want to break the idea that this is only for young, certain-shaped, or certain-type people. Everyone has the right to move in their own way and in their own body — no one needs to fit into a mold to start pole dance.”
Pelkonen has seen firsthand how beginners from various walks of life discover new confidence and body awareness through pole dance. According to her, that’s exactly why low-threshold events are needed. She shares how people who previously avoided physical activity have found a new kind of motivation to move. It’s not just about physical training — it’s also about mental growth.
“Many people say at first: ‘I probably can’t do this.’ And then they realize they actually can. Maybe not perfectly or immediately, but well enough. Even the smallest climb on the pole can be a huge leap in the joy of being in your own body.”
A Community That Supports and Encourages
One of the key elements that supports the sport is the sense of community. Participants cheer each other on and share experiences — without comparison or competition. Pelkonen says that it’s precisely the safe and encouraging atmosphere that keeps attracting new enthusiasts. The threshold to attend classes lowers when people see they don’t need to be strong or flexible to start.
