Hurmos
Hurmos is the joint opening event of the academic year for higher education students in Oulu, and during the European Capital of Culture year it will expand from a two-day event into a three-day celebration! The Hurmos of the Capital of Culture year will take place on September 9–11, 2026.
On Wednesday, the start of the academic year will be celebrated in honor of the
Capital of Culture year with Hurmos Sitsit held at Åström Park — an academic table party combining singing, speeches, food, and drinks.
On Thursday, it’s time to network as the Linnanmaa campus transforms into a fair
area where various student organizations, companies, and other organizations
present their activities, offer benefits, and host activities.
Hurmos culminates on Friday with a festival held in Kuusisaari, where participants
can enjoy performances from Finland’s top artists as well as outstanding student
performers. In addition, student culture can be admired at an overall exhibition on display during Hurmos week at the Valkea shopping center.
Our impact to Culture-
climate change
We want to bring the student culture of Oulu closer to locals and visitors by inviting
them to be a part of the largest opening of the academic year in Finland: Hurmos.
The goal is to make Oulu more tempting student city and to increase its traction and
holding power and visibility internationally. We want to bring all kinds of people
together to enjoy the local student culture.
