The three-year project Climbing over Oulu, which forms part of the European Capital of Culture year, has continued in Oulu over the past week. It is being carried out by the French company Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde in collaboration with Flow Productions.

Climbing over Oulu involves international architects, musicians and circus artists working together in Oulu over three years. The artists invite citizens to join them on urban walks and to take part in workshops and site-specific pop-up events and performances inspired by the city’s inhabitants and urban landscapes. The project is inspired by the city, its people, urban landscapes and human heritage. The project began in summer 2024 and will culminate in summer 2026.

Alongside the urban walks and workshops, a group of twelve French and Finnish artists have been working in Oulu. During their residency, these circus artists and musicians have prepared pop-up performances for audiences in Oulu at the Aaltosiilo and the Kesän Sauna. They will also present a work-in-progress Climbing over Oulu performance at the Culture Centre Valve this Friday.

Gaëtan Lev Józewski is responsible for the artistic direction of the performances.
