Tales of Tar from Oulu

You can experience historical Oulu on the Tales of Tar route! The stories written by Katariina Vuori are based on real locations, events and persons from the golden era of the tar trade in Oulu. Walk the route around Oulu or listen to the stories!

Raahe museums

Explore the museum sites in the center of Raahe, such as the Pakkahuone Museum and the Crown Granary Museum, which showcase the area’s history and local cultural heritage.

Tyrnävä Story Trail

This easy-to-walk, approximately 2.3-kilometer route runs along the Tyrnävänjoki River on the municipal trail in the village center, offering a journey through Tyrnävä’s history and present day,

Ii Environmental art park

Ii Environmental Art Park is situated by the picturesque Iijoki river. Every other year Art Ii Biennial produces pieces of art for the cultural heritage sites in Ii. 

Markkuu Nature Trail

The nature trail offers an approximately 10-kilometer experience through an unexpected natural destination, featuring forests, canyons, and Eurasian wrens nesting along the path in the surroundings of the Ängeslevä River—just a half-hour drive from Oulu.

Bridges of Temmes

An idyllic cycling route that follows the Temmes River and crosses nine bridges. As a circular route, the tour is just under 30 kilometers long.
