Sanginkontu art trails in the riverside forests – a cultural route
Sanginkontu is a network of art trails for all four seasons that combines art and experiences with pure nature. The riverside forests around the villages of Sanginsuu, Lapinkangas and Sanginjoki near Oulu welcome independent travellers!
The Sanginkontu trails invite everyone to experience a unique combination of art and nature in the forests that nestle between the Sanginjoki and Oulujoki estuaries. There are 12 artworks along the trail, which combine the cultural characteristics of northern Finland with stories and history of the area. The art experiences are intertwined with the landscape and invite you to explore the area’s rich heritage.
The artworks are by François Blosseville, Pia Hentunen, Felicia Honkasalo, Aimo Laitinen, Kati Leinonen & Tuomas Mujunen, Macu Makkonen & Jesse Kitinoja, Eero Markuksela, Kai Ruohonen, Jussi Ruusulampi and Satu Suvanto. There are also documentary works created by working groups.
Our impact to Culture-
climate change
The Sanginkontu art trails promote sustainability. They invite everyone to get active and discover the treasures of the area’s history, art and nature. The trails are easy to reach by bus, bicycle or skis, for example.
The trails were built with respect for the principles of sustainable development and the area’s atmosphere. The artworks are long lasting, maintenance free and can be experienced in all seasons. Combining nature, hiking and art in the local environment is an inexpensive and effective way to encourage physical activity and improve wellbeing. Explore the trails solo or in a group!
