As the August evenings grow darker and summer begins to draw to a close, the traditional Night of the Arts events bring Oulu and the surrounding region to life. Streets, parks and cultural venues transform into vibrant stages filled with music, performances, light art and exhibitions. We’ve gathered some of the highlights for August—mark these events in your calendar!
The much-loved tradition Night of the Arts (Taiteiden yö) transform streets, parks, museums, galleries and public spaces into vibrant cultural venues for one evening—or, in some places, an entire weekend.
In 2026, Oulu August Festivals transforms into a Oulu Estuary Art Days (21–24 August), where art meets the water. During the weekend, the Oulu River Delta area becomes an open stage stretching from Turkansaari to Nallikari, offering performances, environmental art, music, and circus.
In Oulu, Summer Night’s Dinner invites locals and visitors to enjoy a diverse selection of live music, good food and entertainment, and spend time together around beautifully set tables on Saturday 15 August until late in the evening.
Several other municipalities across the Oulu2026 region will also celebrate Arts Nights during August: Raahe Arts Night takes place on 14 August, while Wild Kalajoki – Night of the Arts, held for the first time on 21–22 August, will bring art to locations across the town. In Pudasjärvi Arts Night on 11 August, the wooded surroundings of the Local Heritage Museum will come alive with light installations and works by local artists.
Culture also meets nature in the Oulu River Valley, where events in three municipalities come together under the shared theme In the Stream of Stories during the final weekend of August. Muhos will host the multidisciplinary MULF Festival 11th August, while Lights of Vaala 29th August combines music, illuminated kayaking, fire performances, and fireworks. The programme culminates in a community celebration in Utajärvi.
From 21–23 August, the Oulun Muusajuhlat Literary Festival will offer several days of author talks, panel discussions, and encounters with writers at Saari Central Library. At the same time, the European Capital of Culture year invites audiences to reflect on the role of art from a new perspective through the Oulu Artless Day Symposium on 20 August, exploring what a city would be like without art.
The summer season reaches its spectacular finale with the Delta Life Grande Finale (27–29 August), when the Oulu River Delta is transformed into an international open-air stage. Experienced over three evenings, this large-scale production brings together music, dance, contemporary circus, light, water, and the Air Guitar World Championships in a unique artistic celebration.
