Geopark Week from 23 May to 7 June marks the start of early summer in Rokua Geopark. The event is part of the official programme of Oulu 2026 European Capital of Culture and highlights the connection between nature, culture and local heritage.

Where nature meets culture
Rokua Geopark is a UNESCO Global Geopark where the landscape tells the story of the Ice Age. During Geopark Week, these stories come to life through guided tours, events and shared experiences.
Over the two-week period, the geopark area is filled with excursions, activities and opportunities to experience the landscape in new ways.
Culture takes a stronger role
As part of the Oulu2026 programme, Geopark Week places greater emphasis on culture and the arts. The programme highlights participation, creativity and international collaboration.
Activities include environmental art workshops where participants can explore their relationship with nature using natural materials. The programme also introduces cooperation between geoparks and perspectives from partner areas around the world.
Events across the entire area
Geopark Week extends across the region from Muhos to Manamansalo. Throughout the two weeks, visitors can join guided tours, outdoor activities and local events in different parts of the geopark.
The programme offers ways to move in nature, learn about the landscape and pause to experience the surroundings from different perspectives.
A shared celebration of nature and culture
Geopark Week is part of a wider European Geopark Network initiative celebrated simultaneously across Europe. In Rokua Geopark, the event brings an international dimension into a local landscape.
The week highlights shared experiences, understanding of nature and the role of culture as part of the environment. For more information and the full programme, visit the Rokua Geopark website: rokuageopark.fi
