TOWARDS A MORE OPEN WORLD – film screenings for children and young people in kindergartens and schools
TOWARDS A MORE OPEN WORLD is a series of film screenings for all kindergartens and schools in the Oulu2026 area. The main theme is promoting peace and civic participation with children and young people through film.
The film screenings and study guides offered to all kindergartens and schools in the Oulu26 area invite teachers to implement film and cultural education in line with the school curriculum. Films from different parts of the world illustrate cultural diversity and multilingualism. Films will be used to reflect on peace-building themes and human rights.
Selected films are used to convey the theme to different age groups. Short films with positive emotions are offered for the youngest children. Films aimed at children emphasise community, appreciation of diversity and friendship. Youth films deal with civic participation, climate change, anti-racism and minority rights.
Our impact to Culture-
climate change
Films can be used to address the theme of peace with children of different ages, thus promoting a sense of community, democracy and civic participation. Film screenings and study guides allow for discussion of the phenomena just seen. Through the themes of the films, children and young people learn to value multiculturalism and pluralism, which leads to a more open world.
We also contribute to cultural climate change by making film culture available to all kindergartens and schools in the Oulu26 area. This will enable children and young people to experience culture wherever they live.
